My background
A Ministry Born from a Heart of Service
Power & Praise is a Christian ministry founded by Kayla Kennada, a devoted servant of God whose journey spans over four decades of faithful ministry. As a mother of four sons and grandmother of twelve (with another blessing on the way), Kayla brings both the wisdom of experience and the joy of family to everything she does.
Kayla's passion flows through multiple expressions of her calling: as a Minister, Author, Prophetess, and Songstress. Through Power & Praise, she is dedicated to sharing the abundant blessings and profound wisdom found in the Bible, using the gifts and talents God has entrusted to her.
A Journey of Faithful Service
Kayla's ministry story is one of humble beginnings and divine guidance. Long before founding Power & Praise, she discovered that serving others was woven into the fabric of who she is. Her journey began in the churches she attended, where she offered help wherever it was needed—starting in children's church and progressing to teaching Sunday school classes across various age groups.
One pivotal moment came when, despite initial hesitation and unease, she was encouraged to lead praise and worship. What began as a step of faith grew into a deep love that continues to this day. She also volunteered in the nursery, church productions, vacation Bible schools, and even portrayed a puppet in a live children's show during Sunday services. Her servant's heart even extended to cleaning the church—always finding joy in helping others.
Growing in Purpose
In 1994, Kayla joined Dr. Johnnie Blount's ministry at Gospel Fellowship Church (now Be The Word Ministry), where she serves as a full-time minister and spiritual counselor. Starting as a volunteer in the office, she relied heavily on the Holy Spirit's guidance as she tackled responsibilities like producing the ministry newsletter—navigating the then-new world of computers with little administrative experience but abundant faith.
Her impact multiplied through ministry at the Job Corps center for at-risk youth, where over five thousand souls came to salvation in just one year. She accompanied youth on transformative trips to Oral Roberts University, St. Louis, and the Garden of the Gods, while also supporting a hip-hop program and BTW's after-school initiatives.

My Outlook on Faith and Spirituality
My foundation is built upon the unchanging truths of God's Word. These core beliefs guide my life, my Christian ministry, and everything I do through Power & Praise:
The Triune God
I believe in one God eternally existing in three persons: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each is fully God, working in perfect unity for our redemption and His glory.
Salvation Through Christ Alone
Salvation is achieved through believing that Jesus is the Son of God, who was crucified on the cross, taking upon Himself our sin, and was resurrected from the grave—assuring us of eternal life. It is by grace through faith, not by works, that we are saved.
The Authority of Scripture
The Bible is the Truth and is infallible. It is God's inspired Word, our ultimate authority for faith and living, and the foundation upon which all ministry must be built.
Water Baptism
I believe in water baptism by immersion in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as an outward expression of our inward faith and identification with Christ's death, burial, and resurrection.
The Gifts of the Spirit
The nine spiritual gifts are in operation today. God equips His church with these supernatural gifts to edify believers, minister to the lost, and demonstrate His power and presence in our midst.
Living in the New Covenant
Jesus fulfilled the law and the Old Testament covenant, which we could not fulfill. He taught us the Kingdom of God in the New Testament—a life of living by His grace and walking in the authority God gave us in Genesis 1. We are no longer under the burden of the law but empowered by the Spirit to live victoriously in Christ. As a spiritual counselor, I guide others in understanding and embracing these truths.
My involvement
Ministry Today
Today, Kayla wears many hats with grace and dedication within her Christian ministry. She serves as a spiritual counselor and instructor at Be The Word Kingdom Academy, leads praise and worship, and continues her office responsibilities. In collaboration with Dr. Johnnie Blount, she contributes to his books and has embraced authorship herself. As a prophetess, she travels with the ministry to share prophetic messages at various events, while also pursuing her passion for amateur photography—capturing the moments and movements of God.
Among her most treasured experiences are mission trips to Haiti and the Dominican Republic, where she helped build homes and even served as a pharmacist without prior experience. One memorable journey included riding on the back of a motorcycle with a hired driver to a remote mountain clinic—a nearly disastrous adventure where God's protection prevailed!
The Heart of Power & Praise
Through Power & Praise, Kayla extends her ministry beyond the walls of Be The Word, managing an active Facebook ministry page and engaging with her community in meaningful ways. What captivates her most about ministry is the opportunity to express creativity, build camaraderie with fellow believers, embrace the exciting challenge of continuous learning and growth, and contribute to a cause that truly makes a difference.
With God's goodness and the guidance of Dr. Johnnie Blount, Kayla continues to fulfill her divinely appointed purpose. The journey brings moments that are both overwhelming and exhilarating, but it consistently delivers a rewarding sense of fulfillment.
